Interesting Statistics from Shark Tank Appearance

Ever wonder what might happen if your little enterprise got some exposure on Prime Time National TV? Ever wonder if there really is no such thing as bad publicity? Well, I've got your answers in a statistical format. ABC (www.abc.com) was kind enough to air my foray into the Shark Tank (http://abc.go.com/shows/shark-tank/) just over a week ago and things have never been the same for InkFlip (http://www.InkFlip.com).

Google Analytics (http://www.google.com/analytics/) has been kind enough to record the following data for me:

  • Web site traffic UP 16,551.32% (Yes, that's 16 THOUSAND FIVE HUNDRED + PERCENT!!)
  • The initial spike in traffic CRASHED MY SERVER so, while the number of visitors was in the THOUSANDS, it's hard to say exactly how many people really visited in the 1st 24 hours.
  • I'm still averaging over 300 new & unique visitors to InkFlip.com PER DAY, none of which I've paid a dime for.
  • My customer base has TRIPLED.
  • I've shipped more ink cartridges in the last 10 days than I did from the day InkFlip.com went live up until I walked into the Shark Tank (ok, I actually walked into the Shark Tank last summer, but you know what I mean).
  • I've had dozens of investment-related inquiries and have already had several meetings related to that potential investment or acquisition.
So the moral of the story is, given the choice to get your tail kicked on National TV or stay home where it's safe, take the whipping - it only hurts for a minute!

Best - Andy

P.S. Thank you immensely to all of you who are new (and still potential) customers. I'm indeed grateful!

  2. By the way, we figured out why the sharks didn't go for it...

They all have personal assistants to handle the mundane (and annoying) details of life like purchasing ink for one's printer. So, in their defense, they truly didn't have a clue.

  5. Up 16k%, that's amazing! Thanks for sharing this info, I've always wondered what kind of affect shark tank had on website traffic.

You got a great product and what you needed was some awareness. You got that from Shark Tank AND you didn't have to give up 50% of your business! Take that, fishies! Congrats!

  6. I watched you on "Shark Tank" and immediately clicked backward to get your name so I could Google it. I am one of your newest customers, and I am still laughing at how the sharks made such a big blunder...lol.

Laugh all the way to the bank, Andy!!!!

  7. This super duper late and I'm aware of this but I just started watching Shark Tank so....there's that.

You mention that your new visitors are all free, but didn't ABC take 2% of your royalties or 5% of your equity? Which one did they take and is it forever? Was it worth it?

thanks and good luck! I think the sharks invested in much dumber ideas.
